At one time, a wooden porch was the focus of a great deal of creative energy. Styles were exuberant and ornamental. The carpenter’s heart was really in it. This is where he had a chance to show his craft and skill.
The modern porch, where it still exists, is more utilitarian. But that doesn't mean that it can't be ornamental. Often, the carpenter's art is complemented by the gardener's.
